The Fine Print
JournalI was on MySpace enjoying my page when I saw this advertisement on how to get money! Well, I like getting money, so I decided to check it out. I clicked on the link, which took me to www.earncashfromgrants.com. I filled out their "Pre-Screening" form to see if I "qualified" for one of their "remaining free CDs" because they were "going fast", and their "free stocks" were limited.

Of course, after filling out their form, it took me to the next page which asked a LITTLE bit more information about me, to include my address, phone number, and email address. I filled it out.

THEN, it took me to the credit card page, saying:

We`re holding this free kit just for you. Please complete this page within 2:15 minutes. After 2:15 minutes, this free kit we’re holding will be released for others to claim.
Priority Shipping - Only $1.00

Wow! Only $1?? I can do that. Now, notice that you HAD to fill out that form in less than 3 minutes?? Well, below the form where you put in the credit card information is the FINE print!

You have also unlocked a FREE fourteen-day trial and twenty one-day trial to the Fraud Protection Resource Center and Identity Theft Protection for just $4.95 and $9.95 a month thereafter (shows as "FraudProtection" and "IdentitySecurity") should you choose not to cancel. Prior charges for bonus are non-refundable but subscription can be cancelled and future charges stopped at any time by calling toll-free 1-800-712-7226 and 1-877-205-7023.

...and when I say, "fine print", I really mean it! I had to get up close to my computer screen to read it, but I'm glad I did.

Now I can understand the need and want to make money, but that's just border-line unethical! If their product is so wonderful, then they could sell it for an outright price... and I'd bet people would even pay for it! But what in the hell does "IdentitySecurity" have to do with receiving government grants?? So their hook is this: if you pay the $1 to get your "free" CD, then you'll be charged $29.95/mo for the Government Grants Service until you cancel the "membership". Of course, by then, you figure out that you've also been charged $9.95/mo for "Fraud Protection" and $4.95/mo for "Identity Theft Protection", totalling a non-refundable $44.85... although you can "stop future charges". Of course you can! They've already got their money! So you're out $44.85 (plus the initial $1 you spent) for your "FREE CD" that may, or may not, really work. Of course, they "GUARANTEE" it'll work or they'll "give you 6 months of additional free help".

So, exactly what part of this is actually FREE????

The header image off their website...

Another thing I noticed is how they have the CNBC, CBS, and CNN trademark images all over their header. They even have this quote on their site next to the CNBC and Fox News trademarks:

NBC and other news sources report that the government distributed over $10 BILLION last year to qualified applicants.

So I really wonder if CNBC, CBS, CNN, and Fox News (1) endorses this site, and (2) knows they're using their trademarks like that?

What REALLY surprised me was the fact that there were NO reviews that turned up when I tried to "google" it.
