Though I'm pleased with how today at the office ended, I was definately glad it ended. My day wasn't too particulary productive in a sense that I got many of my tasks completed. However, it was productive that two major roadblocks in our efforts have been overcome. I apologize if I don't go into too much detail about what it is I do and what happens, but I fear I may divulge too much information at the expense of my company, my co-workers, our customers, or our vendors. As much as this is a personal journal, loose lips sink ships, and I can't share EVERYTHING.
I was tasked to resolve an issue with one of our customers along with a technician. We outsource some of our technical work because we have customers all over the country, and it would be hell if I had to travel around fixing the issues that we can more easily hire someone to do for us. We use a guy on the east coast a lot, however, I ran into a snag with our customer at a south central US location. I had a vendor there to work on our system that was tied into our customer's network. To get the access we needed, we needed a special configuration on the customer's server. I tried and the on-site technician tried everything we knew, but it was still not working for us. I contacted the technician we use on the east coast and put him in touch with the tech on-site where we had issues. Like every other normal day, I went home for lunch. When I returned to the office, the issue had been resolved. What was even more surprising was this issue had to be resolved before I could configure our system, and that was already done... without my asking. Even MORE amazingly... IT WORKED!
There was a bigger issue I didn't really have anything to do with, but my boss did. Because of what happened with my boss, an even of work that was planned got cancelled so he could go home and re-develop our software. I had planned on working an additional three to four hours. Instead, I came home and took a long nap.

I'm sure most of you, at one point or another in your lives, have had the chance to sit in a new car. A new car has that distinctive smell about it that a lot of people like. For me, it made me sick to my stomach, and I couldn't wait for it to wear off.
I purposely waited around 12 hours (or close to it) before I posted another entry to this log. I liked the fact that I've written the program and that it works. I could use a little bigger audience, but I'm sure that will come in time. In the mean time, this site still has that "new car smell". I like the fact that it's new, but I'm sure I'll like it better after it's been broke in a little and has some relevant content.
I went to bed right after writing my blog page, and I layed there thinking about this new outlet that I have and how I just wanted to put EVERYTHING on here! And the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to get up and start typing, getting even less sleep than I did. This is where I'll put my thoughts, feelings, and ideas. I have a lot of them now, but that's no way to get to know me. I'll tell you, though, by starting this feels like starting a new life. I'm glad I can share it with you. |

I am officially a Blogger! |
|
I have completed the basic part of writing my web log software. I was anxious to get a guestbook written, and I used most of the code from that to create my little soapbox. Because of the nature of blogging, I will probably rant and rave here more than I will post articles... it's just much easier this way.
I stumbled on what seemed to be an undiscovered culture for me on the internet. I have a way to post my rants because I host my own website, and have my own datasource access. I don't require any help from any third party software... I wrote my own site that I host in my house on my server.
I'm pretty impressed with Wil Wheaton. He is a blogger! Check out his site! Click Here. For those of you who don't know, Wil Wheaton played in the movie "Stand By Me" and was well known as Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I recently subscribed to InformationWeek Magazine, and they ran a cover on Blogging. Stephanie Stahl ran an editorial on the cover story, and this was just a couple of weeks after I learned what Blogging was all about. I sent her an email to the fact, and told her I would be setting this up soon, so here it is! I rushed my operation just because I told Stephanie Stahl I was. I think it's common to update the blog section once a day, but I'm having fun with this, so I think I'll update it a little more than that. I'll have everything here from opinions to techie stuff. I'll write more features into my blog section in the future, but for now, I'm happy to be able to update this even when I'm at work.
Let the bloggings begin! :) |
